Hoisington

"Hoisington the Heart of Cheyenne Bottoms" and gateway to the wetlands & wildlife Scenic Byway is located in the center of Kansas, 20 miles south of I-70 at the intersection of Hwy 281 and Hwy 4.

Cheyenne Bottoms Wildlife Area is located on Hoisington's southeastern border in a 41,000 acre lowland basin. It is considered to be the largest interior marsh in the U.S. and is visited by 48% of the Nation's migratory bird population.

Hoisington's downtown features 62 metal art banners. Each displays a different scene depicting birds, wildlife and history of Cheyenne Bottoms. This State award winning display is of great artistic and educational value. Park the car, walk, view the banners and then enjoy the stores and restaurants in downtown.

While parked view the Prairie Wavemaker Mural at 114 N. Main. Visit the Hoisington Historical Museum at the corner of Walnut and E. 2nd. See the WPA publicly funded art projects. Check out the Sun Dial on the City Building.

Labor Day weekend Hoisington hosts the largest Labor Day Parade in the State. Other events include a Carnival, Demolition Derby, Flea Market and Dance.
