Amazing Things to see and Do

Lake View Four thousand square miles of unique history, attractions and culture make up THE AMAZING 100 MILES of central Kansas. This area, between Salina and Hays, includes 20 miles on either side of Interstate 70.T-rex can be seen at the Sternberg Museum of Natural History in Hays KS

Anchoring the west end is the outstanding Sternberg Museum of Natural History. This Museum is a four-story dome that has recreated a time 88 million years ago when the mighty T-Rex haunted the land and Kansas was covered by an inland sea.

 

Anchoring the eastern end of THE AMAZING 100 MILES is Rolling Hills Wildlife Refuge for rare and endangered animals at Hedville near Salina. The Conservation Center is now home to  more than 65 species of animals.Many species of wildlife are protected at Rolling Hills Wildlife Refuge

 

Located between the two anchors are well-known places such as the Garden of Eden and Grassroots Art Center in Lucas which has been designated the Grassroots Art Capital of Kansas. Also included is the Cathedral of the Plains in Victoria, the Lincoln court-house in Lincoln County which is the Post Rock Capital of Kansas, and the Czech Opera Museum in Wilson which is the Czech Capital of Kansas.

Bed and Breakfasts in THE AMAZING 100 MILES area include Castle Rock at Kanopolis, Ira E. Lloyd House in Ellsworth, the Country Inn at Dorrance, Das Younger Haus at Victoria, Aurora Hills at Hays, the Woody House in Lincoln and Hunters Leigh Bed & Breakfast in Salina, just to mention a few.

Interior ViewDuring a visit to Lindsborg, visitors will find themselves Välkomen in "Little Sweden, USA" with ethnic and cultural events, five bed and breakfasts, and streets filled with art galleries and unique specialty shops. The traditional Dala Horse for this Swedish community can be seen at nearly every house in town.

Most of the 52 towns in THE AMAZING 100 MILES have unique specialty shops that feature high quality and rare items that often are not found anywhere else. These include Village Lines in Lincoln, Johnny Bingo's Hats in Ellsworth, and Kansas Originals Market off I-70 near Wilson. Kansas Originals is also a tourist information center with brochures and maps for many of the attractions, services, and events that are available throughout the area.One of the many fine shops in Lindsborg Ks



Two large federal lakes, Wilson Lake and Kanopolis Lake, offer days of camping, fishing, swimming, hunting, boating, and windsailing. Unique restaurants with exceptional food can be found at Sylvan Dollar Saloon, Bunker Hill Cafe, Smoky Hill Vineyards & Winery,, and the Hickory Tree Restaurant.
