Four thousand square miles of unique history, attractions and culture make up The Amazing 100 Miles of Central Kansas. This area, between Salina and Hays, includes 20 miles on either side of Interstate 70. In the middle is the Post Rock Scenic Byway that winds around beautiful Wilson Lake.
Anchoring the west end is the outstanding Sternberg Museum of Natural History. This museum is a four-story dome that has recreated a time 88 million years ago when the mighty T-Rex haunted the land and Kansas was covered by an inland sea. Rolling Hills Wildlife Adventure just west of Salina is one destination, two unforgettable experiences. Guests can enjoy more than 85 species of animals at the Zoo, then journey around the world in the Impressive Wildlife Museum.
Located between the two anchors are well-known places such as the world famous Garden of Eden and Grassroots Art Center in Lucas, Rock City National Landmark near Minneapolis, Cathedral of the Plains in Victoria, the Lincoln County Courthouse, Czech Opera House Museum in Wilson and the Oil Patch Museum in Russell. Museums with history and heritage include the Smoky Hill Museum in Salina and the Ottawa County Historical Museum in Minneapolis, to name a few. Bed and Breakfasts in the Amazing 100 Miles area include the Stone Cottage Farm Bed & Breakfast & Antiques at Lucas, Seasons of the Fox, A Bed & Breakfast in Lindsborg, as well as the Historic Midland Hotel. Lindsborg visitors will find themselves Valcomen in "Little Sweden, USA". Most of the towns in the Amazing 100 Miles have unique specialty shops that feature high quality and rare items that often are not found anywhere else. These include Village Lines in Lincoln and Kansas Originals Market & Gallery off I-70 near Wilson.
Two large federal lakes, Wilson Lake and Kanopolis Lake, offer days of camping, boating, wind sailing, hiking, biking and horse trails.
